What is Peer Support?
The Peer Support Team are here to support your Gender Affirming surgery journey. They are trans+ people with lived experience of transition and trans+ healthcare who can listen to any challenges you are facing, holding a non-clinical space for any aspect of your surgical or transition journey.
You can access one-to-one sessions to discuss issues important to you, such as gender identity, sexual orientation, self-esteem, relationships, recovery and well being, or any topics related to transition and surgery more broadly. You can talk to any of your clinicians for a referral to the team.
Who are we and how do you access the service?
We are compassionate, peer-led support. Using lived experience as trans+ people we support service users through their surgical journey, offering guidance, resources and a non-judgmental space to discuss fears, hopes and experiences.
To join the waiting list you can request any of your clinicians make a referral or you can complete our self referral form. Your clinician may go through the referral form with you or ask questions to enable them to complete the form.
What does Peer Support offer?
-
One to one sessions: We offer access to all CCGS service users via one to one sessions with your peer support worker. These are 50 minute sessions, either online or in person. You can have up to 6 sessions with your peer support worker. You should have an idea of things you want assistance with to access this service.
-
Safe and Confidential: Our Peer Support Workers are here to provide a compassionate and understanding environment where you feel safe to openly discuss the challenges you may be facing. Through a supportive and confidential approach, they work alongside you, offering encouragement and practical guidance to help pursue your personal goals.
-
Tailored Group sessions: Making connections with those on a similar journey can help to discuss how other people have navigated their own challenges. The peer support team can offer gender surgery pathway specific peer support groups for our service users to build connections with others on the same surgical pathway.
